The last time I spoke upon the subject of growing the BHO was in February. So, a fair amount of time has passed and some things have changed and some things haven't, so i thought now would be a good opportunity to keep you all abreast about what has been going on, so here goes!
Well, let's start with the things that haven't happened. I'm an honest(ish) man, so when I break promises, I own it. I more or less guaranteed in February that we would be holding Yahtzee evenings in local pubs by the time I wrote this update. Weeeell, that hasn't happened. But it's not because I don't want to. There are two main reasons this hasn't happened yet. The first is a finacial issue. At the moment I just can't afford to be spending very many, if any evenings in the boozer playing Yahtzee. Secondly, I suffer with anxiety and nothing scares me more than setting up an evening of Yahtzee only for me to be the only person there, looking like a prize turnip. But I keep having stern words with myself and hopefully I can overcome these obstacles sooner rather than later.
The last thing that hasn't happened is the videos of the live matches that I promised to film and publish last time. This was not for any particular reason, other than the fact that I'm still kinda wrestling with how to do it the most efficiently. The BHOF0001's (my faction) Third League is coming back on the 10th May. I have told myself that I don't care how many matches are filmed, I'm going to at least film some of them. I think once I get started, things should get easier from there. But we'll see.
Now let's move on to the things I actually HAVE done. I suppose the main thing the BHO has done since February is create the Friday night Live matches online. Has it been a success? Well, we have had some interest. We had a player join us before we started, then they buggered off. But it wasn't their fault. We were delayed and they had no idea when we were going to start. So I can only hope they give it another go. I keep advertising the live matches and the posts do garner some interest, but it hasn't really resulted in players as of yet. But we're not giving up, we will proceed and hopefully interest will grow. If you want to play online, keep your eye on this blog or any of my socials to find out how you can get involved.
Speaking of socials, I have beefed up my online presence substantially. The BHO is now on X (Twitter, before that weirdo took over), Reddit and Instagram. All very easy to find (BHO Yahtzee Organisation or Org). We also have a server on Discord, but you need to physically invite people to that for whatever reason, so all I can say is stay on the lookout because everyone is welcome, you'll get there eventually!
This, as you can imagine requires an even larger investment of effort and time. But do you know what? I couldn't care less, as the results speak for themselves. You see, up until the beginning of April this year, this blog had been running for about six months. In all that time, this blog accrued two thousand views. Not exactly Mr. Beast, I know. But I was incredibly proud of that. Everyone starts somewhere after all. Then April came along and I decided to go for it, I joind all the socials I could think of, and what do you know, I increased the blog's viewership by one whole thousand... in a fraction of the time! So I am NOT complaining. And long may it continue! Not only that, I have had people join our Discord and emails enquiring about what we do. Nothing firm has come of it yet, but if this trend continues... who knows...
So, at the moment at least, I am a happy camper. Needless to say, especially if you know me, I'm still learning. To be clear, normally, the closest I get to social media is scrolling up on mind numbing videos when I have nothing else to do. I don't have the first idea how to properly use them, much less exploit them for you're own benefit. But I'm hoping that one day it will click. If that day ever comes, I will be sure to let you know.
'Till next time, you gorgeous legends xxxxx
