Summary
After many, many months and numerous delays, we finally reached the end of the very first (and possibly last) Core Championship. It was a race to 5000 points and it was reached on the very day of the BHOF0001'S first match of League 3. Here's how it all went down...
Claire bagged the top spot with an impressive score. She handled the dice with poise and grace, kind of like a ballet dancer on her down time. If you've actually seen Claire, you would realise that that is quite the compliment. Her final score, whilst a nice one, was not enough to improve her position in the table, she finishes the Championship in third place. I came second with a rather average score. I, however, did not play with poise and grace. I played like an unsuccessful buisnessman currently steering his company along the choppy waters towards bankruptcy. There was a reason for this. I needed a mere 210 points to take the Championship and earn the all important Champions Badge that I have coveted since I started this silly organisation over a year ago. In my mind I can be forgiven for taking this particular match a bit too seriously, but that didn't stop my fellow competitors pointing and laughing at me. But by the end of the match, I couldn't have cared less. I got the points I required and was finally coming home a champion. I expected fan fare when I came home. Hordes of people crying and applauding, screaming my name. But, no. The house was quiet, the lights were off. So it was up to me to celebrate in solitude. Which, I am not embarrassed to say, I did. Russell took third place with a score incredibly close to my own. He's been playing pretty well recently, but unfortunately the early matches of this Championship did not help him and they have pretty much hampered his progress ever since. But despite the up and down nature of his performances, you've still gotta love that wrinkly ball sack of a man. He's a stoic reminder of a bygone age. There will be statues made of this man in the years to come, but probably not for his Yahtzee prowess. He finishes fourth in the table. And coming in fourth place was my biggest threat, Kerrie. She could have mathematically took home the trophy if she had got a monumental score and I had had a nighmare, but it wasn't to be. She actually had a bit of a naff score. This is no detriment to her, Kerrie is genuinely one of the most consistent (lucky?) players we have. She gave me a bloody good run for my money throughout the whole of this Championship. In fact, for the first half of it she was in the lead and never too far away from me after I stole the lead from her. Yes, it was a little too close for my liking. She finishes second place in the table.
Well, that's it, another BHO Championship done and dusted. Will there be another Core Championship? I don't know. It was a response to four players being frustrated with the constant delays of the League, so we went a bit rogue. The BHO competitions are now a much more well oiled affair thanks to experience and the decision to split matches when necessary. But who knows, never say never. Perhaps it will morph into a "Champions" League when there are a few more of us (yes, us).
