Right up until this post, the BHO Yahtzee Organisation has been exclusively funded by myself and our fantastic members, obviously. But recently I wanted to expand the BHO in a way that really doesn't benefit the BHO in any significant way.
One late night (or early morning) I had the idea that children could really benefit from Yahtzee, in an educational and social way. Anything to keep them away from those screens, am I right?
So I had the idea that I would create Yahtzee packs, aimed at children from 5 to 10 years old. Why? Well, because, aside from the social aspect of actually engaging with other human beings rather than TikTok, Yahtzee can be incredibly educational. It teaches mathematics (addition and subtraction) and it also teaches key skills (risk management, decision making, logical thinking) and more. So, maybe it's just me, but I think it's a game that is worth sharing.
I will be sharing this game in the form of Yahtzee packs. Nothing fancy, just packs that contain five dice, the rules, score sheets and information about the BHO. My hope is that the wee young whippersnappers will learn something, they will play it with their families and hopefully add at least a smidgen of joy to their lives. Is it the most noble of causes? Of course not, but if I can raise at least a few smiles from the little ones then I will be happy!
These packs will be distributed to schools, libraries, youth clubs, churches and basically anywhere else I can think of, totally free of charge.
We have made some progress making these packs, but it costs money, and there isn't an awful lot of it about at the moment is there? So I have set up a GoFundMe fundraiser in the hopes that we can get a little bit of help along the way.
