BHO Jr. - Blog #1 - For The Young 'uns

Children... yep, them smelly, dribbly, snotty little things that we tend to want to create for some reason. I joke, because... well... kids are fantastic!! Children are fantastic! They're such free spirits. They can do what they want and say what they want without worrying about the consequences. Oh, to be that age once again! But, even when you grow up to the age that you can have children of your own: they are still awesome!!! They keep you young and keep you knackered! But still, it's an absolute pleasure!
Think about it. Much more than getting to say exactly how they feel, exactly what they want... they get to fall asleep and scratch what they want, exactly when they want! Then... they get to do it all over again the next day! If I did that, you would think I had had too much to drink and I would recieve some very stern words from my wife! But, Children, however, get to do all that and more, ALL THE TIME! Amazing. The lucky little gits!
Again, they are the perfect example of total freedom, and I am always extremely jealous of them. But, eventually, they do start to lose total freedom, they need to attend school because they do need educating! Because you don't really want to raise a moron, do you?
Anyhow, forget about all that. You might have noticed that I love Yahtzee... I'm not sure how... It's not like mention it in EVERY post is it?! OR run a blog dedicated to Yahtzee! Of course not!
If you yourself are a moron, you may not have noticed that what I just said is in fact, sarcasm, then please be aware that i love Yahtzee, in fact, I love it so much that I just wanna spread the word, spread the joy and get as many people playing as possible! I don't even care if they play for the BHO or not, I just want them to play for the love of the game!
So, as dangerous as it may be, I just couldn't get the idea of sharing Yahtzee with as many humans, large or little out of my relativley empty head. So I got to thinking.
Yahtzee is actually pretty educational... very educational actually. So, I asked myself: who benefits from education more than those sparkling, young and fabulous children? So I have decided to exploit (for want of a better word) this fact! In my experience, and I am certainly not an expert, but children seem to learn a lot more when they are engaged. I'm not suggesting that schools don't do this, I can say for sure that my daughter absolutely loves school, so I am by no means suggesting that they are doing it wrong. Again, what would I know? But I do think thank Yahtzee could be a lovely little addition to their education, however minimal. And the great thing is, the BHO doesn't want anybody's money. It will be just as free (to the children) as any other public educational service.
And if the there is just one thing that I know about people, it is that everybody loves free stuff! It doesn't seem to matter what it is, if it's free, people want it! So I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I want to give out "Yahtzee kits" for all the children in my little girls school (for now, at least). Why? Again, because it is awesome for learning the many key skills that are needed in our modern, turgid, life! Plus it feels great to do something nice just for the sake of it.
So, I've waffled on about the educational benefits of Yahtzee for long enough, so, for the love of God, what are they? Well, maths, as you would imagine... but it goes deeper than that. It teaches addition, matching, grouping and devision... wicked. It also teaches probability, which is more and more important these days.
More than that though, it teaches strategy, decision making, problem solving and risk taking!! Who doesn't need that?
But even EVEN more than that, it teaches patience, a value very few of us, even people my own age, posess these days! It also helps them to be much more organised and much more social.
I had been playing Yahtzee WAAAY before I realised that it had all these educational benefits. I always played with total engagement but also total ignorance as to it's benefits! Basically because I'm totally ignorant and never thought that it could ever be used to actually teach people! But I'm glad I do know about those benefits now and they just make me smile and want to share them, and honestly, it is great to know that at least one of my many silly endeavours actually posseses a benefit that could help others... especially to those wee young whippersnappers!!
So what is my plan? Why am I even talking to you right now? Well, I think if you are to understand what I am trying to do, I should probably just give you a blow by blow account of of what I INTEND to do. Don't worry, it's really not that complicated! So I will explain, if you will let me.
In principle, it couldn't be any more clear for you dear people, but what might not be so clear, is why I, just nobody from Bradford, cares so much. Well, hopefully I can explain all that.
It will also give me a good reference to make sure I'm staying on track! I'm not always the most organised human... Just in case you hadn't noticed. Anyway, here goes:
I would like to give away "Yahtzee Packs" to all them lovely little school children that I was talking about. I plan to start small, I will start off with my daughter's school and concentrate just on her class to begin with, just to see how it goes. If it goes well, I will move on to other classes, then other schools. All this will be done ONLY with the express permission of the school itself! No, I will NOT be stood at the school gates, handing children suspicious little packets!! If the school accepts, I will hand the packs to the teachers and allow them to distribute them "officially".
So, what will be in these aforementioned "Yahtzee Packs"? Well, it's pretty obvious really! They will include five dice, a set of rules, a set of rules, a few score sheets and a card explaining who we are and info on the Yahtzee Scoring App, which is far superior to filling in score sheets! So, basically everything one would need to get started on their Yahtzee journey!
At this point, you might be asking yourself why I'm even bothering to do this at all. You would be justified in your enquiry. And I do have an answer. Well, I'm doing it because I think Yahtzee is not only fun, but as stated, it is also beneficial, educationally, for our wee ones.
Just so you know, I am not doing all this for any selfish reasons, my intentions are pure! It certainly has nothing to do with making money as it will cost me (us, being The BHO) money, not make it! No, I want to get the kids involved, maybe nurture a future League champion. Plus, these young blessings will take their Yahtzee Packs home to their parents and, if I know kids like I think I do, they will force their parents to play, and who knows, perhaps they will enjoy it, see the blog info, give us a look and join us... it... might happen... but that is by no means the reason I'm doing this! It genuinely is for the kids! If I can get just a couple of little ones interested in our great game then I will consider that mission accomplished!
So, finally, this little corner of our blog will be dedicated to my quest to get the kids interested in Yahtzee and I will post an update everytime I have one.

Thank's for reading and stay tuned, you awesome people xxxxxxx
