Well, it has been over a week since I sent my email to my daughter's shool, offering to send them "Yahtzee Packs" (see previous BHO JR posts) and I have had zero response. This is somewhat disheartening, but I'm not one to be discouraged. It does, however, leave me in a bit of a predicament: where do I go from here?
Initially, my contingency plan was to either call the school or just go and talk to them. I hate both of these ideas because social situations are not my forté. But I was talking to my lovely Shrek... sorry, sister, and she made a very good point. Heidi's (my lovely little one's) school has just had parent's evening and Christmas is coming up with all the busyness that comes with it, so some weirdo (but not creep. NOT CREEP) sending an email with an admittedly out of the ordinary request may not actually be at the top of their priorities list. So I was advised to wait until after the holidays and then send a polite reminder. I thought this was not only reasonable, but also obvious and I wish I was smart enough to have thought of it myself. So this is definitely the route I am going to take before I kill myself psyching myself up to talk to another human being.
But let's say I do all that, even talk to them, and they are still not interested. What then? Well, I've thought about that. First of all, there are other schools, which I had planned to approach anyway, eventually, so just a little sooner than planned is no big deal. But more than that, there are always community centers that are just full of people that are searching for new hobbies. Will they attract the children for the original, educational, purposes I mentioned in previous posts? I'm not sure. Hopefully. But honestly, anything that draws people, of any age, to this great game of ours is a plus. This may even help with getting some actual, in-person events started, but hopefully the kids will still get involved. This is why my second thought was libraries. In my experience, and this may not be true of everywhere in the country, kids love libraries, so I thought it would be great to set up stall there. This may even be my second option if the Schools fail to bite.
Either way, all is not lost with my first option, the schools, unfortunately it seems it's just a waiting game... but I can be patient when I need to be... I suppose.
Also, if you think you know of a good place where I can set up shop and give away my packs, please let me know! Either comment on this post or send me an email at bhoyahtzeeorg@gmail.com
As always, thanks for listening xxxxx
