Dad vs. The Boy - A Fight For Masculine Supremacy - Match #10 - 14/08/25

Introduction
It has been over two weeks since Miles and myself convened for a battle between young and old. I did, however manage to convince him to play (it's usually a struggle).
So, what's been going on? Well, the one thing I can tell you is that his hair now has a life of it's own. I would go so far as to say that if he didn't have it, he would weigh about half of what he weighs now! If i was to describe it, I would say it's a cross between Mungo Jerry (google him) and a toilet brush. But he's adamant, it's going nowhere!
I have mentioned in a previous post that Miles now has designs on becoming a pro skateboarder. It seems that his obsession has grown exponentially! He's now spent a vast amount of money on a new board, which is basically a glorified plank of wood on wheels, and spent avast amount of money on some new shoes that he bought solely to ruin while skateboarding. The mind boggles. He also now talks to me in a language I don't understand. He keeps using words like "fakie", "no comply" and "dark slide". He may as well be talking Urdu because I haven't got a bloody clue what he's talking about! But does he let that stop him. Don't be silly! In fact, I think he enjoys talking to me about things I know nothing about, he does like to flex, even though there is not much on him to flex! He's a bit of a weed.
His birthday is coming up. Yes, on the first of September he will be the ripe old age of fourteen. Grey hairs soon pal! If he's anything like me he will, anyway! And what does the boy want for his birthday? You guessed it, skateboarding bits and bobs. Fine by me, it's his birthday, he can get what he wants. But get this... His sister, Isabelle took him to town and spent an exorbitant amount of money on some skate shoes (previously mentioned), which, in August, he now has. His auntie took him to town to buy him a real professional skateboard (previously mentioned), which, in August, he now has. His sister, Grace sent him a t-shirt through the mail, which, in August, he now has! He's gonna be one disappointed little puppy when he wakes up on his actual birthday! But you know what kids are like, there's no talking to them!
Anyway, that's about it for now, like I said, it's all been pretty much skateboard, skateboard, skateboard constantly since the last time we convened. And there really is only so much I can say about skateboards. But ask Miles... because he'll bore you for days!

Summary
This match was a bloody close one, as anyone with eyes can tell by the above results.
I had something to prove in this match. I know it might sound a bit sad to be so serious about getting one over on your son. But if most fathers were truly honest, they would tell you that they never want to come second to their son. It's something in the genes. That's why mothers let their four year old sons win during any game, but the fathers will always insist that learning to lose is an important part of growing up. It was certainly an important part of my upbringing. My crusty old dad never let me win at anything growing up. I wish I could say that I got the better of him from time to time, but no, he usually battered me at just about anything we played. But I'm older now... and he still beats me most of the time! This is why I don't go soft on Miles. Not that it matters most of the time, he knows how to beat his dad. But not this time. I was victorious! I might have won be a mere one point, but it counts... it bloody counts alright?! I remain first.
Miles, obviously, came second. But I have nothing to say about his performance (apart from the skateboard talk, perhaps) as he finished one point behind me. He actually seemed a bit dismayed, because he knows what this means (but we'll get to that). But he handled it well. He has my respect in this regard. He is by no means a poor loser. He takes it all in his stride, admittedly unlike his father at times. He knows there's still a long way to go and therefore plenty of time to regain the lead. He remains second.

Standings
Chris 6 - 4 Miles

Final Thoughts
This match marks a true milestone in this competition. It is the first time either one of us have been more than one match in the lead, I'm just (incredibly) lucky that it was me. I have got myself out of a few scrapes during this contest, so Miles could just as easily be two matches ahead of me! Let's see if he has the heart and spirit to dust himself off and catch up! I'm sure he has...

The Hair!
