Being the patriarch of the BHO and the Godfather of Yahtzee (what a load of shit), you would think that I was pretty amazing at the game. Well, as the many, MANY match summaries on this blog will tell you, nothing could be further from the truth! Since the very beginning, I've been an average player. OR just plain bloody awful! That was until I won the now defunct Core Championship this past May. Then something seems to have happened. It's as if the stars realigned and the Moon was in my anus (or is that Uranus? I don't know, is yours big enough?).
Winning a Championship badge can do great things to a human (well, me). It can make you feel indestructible, like God or Keith Richards. I cannot explain it, but it seems to have given me a right royal kick up the arse! This is apparently exactly what I needed. I'm currently (at the time of writing) well in the mix in League three and I am currently (ditto) riding high in top spot in the Champion's League. Now, believe me when I tell you that I absolutely do NOT say all this to blow my own trumpet, no. I am actually genuinely curious as to why this is!
The most obvious (possible) answer to my newly found Yahtzee prowess is obvious; confidence. When you get your first Championship on the board, it's only natural to feel bolstered by said result. You can't underestimate the power of confidence and it does seem to be making all the difference! But surely a metaphorical growth in the testicular region can't be the only reason for my newly found amazingness! So, what else?
Obviously, and my family would confirm, I am the furthest thing from a doctor that you will ever find, but it is fairly common knowledge that if you score a big win your body releases it's very own form of crack-cocaine; endorphins and adrenaline. This is an incredibly fun situation to find yourself in. There is a reason that morons throw themselves off mountains while pretending to be a flying squirrel. Personally, I'll stick to Yahtzee, but I can definitely see where they are coming from. Either way, it's a fun situation to find yourself in and if you have another competitive match after the one you have just dominated, as we (our faction) often do, it can definitely help. You're more relaxed and, dare I say it, more cocky. This can make all the difference to your results!
When we first started playing competitive Yahtzee under the banner of the BHO, all matches were pretty much played in one day. Sounds obvious, right? But there were a lot of us and it could often devolve into a loud, confusing, and more importantly, distracting mess! To be clear, all of our matches, in my opinion, would still be played all at the same time, regardless of distractions. But the BHO has grown to the point where this is not always possible, so we often have to split the matches and host online games to ensure everyone gets their metaphorical day in court. This can result in much quieter matches (matches I am ALWAYS present for BTW) and to be honest, it does me the world of good! Too much noise can often be hugely distracting. For me, at least. This doesn't affect everyone, but unfortunately I am not one of those! Still, I do think all matches should be in person. But I do like to accommodate all those that wish to play and it's rally not that big of a deal!
So they're my theories. I'd be interested to know what contributes to you playing a decent match. The major question as far as I see it is, is it gonna last? This, to me, is a pretty easy question to answer; No, of course not! I'll soon go back to playing like absolute camel shit and scraping by with mediocre scores. But for now I'm doing pretty bloody well! Long may it continue, which it probably won't, but for now, who cares? For as long as it continues I'm gonna enjoy it for as long as it may last! This may be a few months, or it might very well be over already and I just don't know it yet! Either way, I'm sure you'll hear about it. Just keep an eye open for the vulgar language. It's a sure sign that im losing again!
