Introduction
Miles, just FYI, is a bloody hard kid to wrangle. It's not that you never see him or he's too busy with friends all the time. No, it's getting him interested enough just to spend ten minutes with his dad so we can get a bloody match going! So as a result, it's been at least a fortnight since we last played. But I managed to talk him around and we FINALLY got a bloody match going! Cheers... ya git...
Anyway, what's been going on with us? Well, it's pretty ironic really. I am currently writing a new blog post that is roughly about the type of person that picks up an interest and then just ditches it for something else. He truly is my son. After I learned that he does this I immediately cancelled the DNA test. He now does not want to be a rock star anymore, he wants to be a pro skateboarder! Oh, how he reminds me of myself. I was exectly the same. My infatuations, which could become borderline obsessive, would be done and gone in a matter of weeks (literally less than a month) and I would be equally infatuated with something totally unrelated for the next few weeks. This is Miles right now! I do try (as I THINK I have learned my lesson) to advise him it's best to stick with one thing and get really good at it rather than just flip flopping around with any little thing that grabs his attention for a nanosecond. I'm not claiming that I'm right to do this, I just feel it's better to get awesome at one thing than be "meh" at a lot of things. I believe this because I am "meh" at a lot of things and awesome at nothing, because I did exactly what Miles is doing! Focus is what I'm talking about. Miles lacks it and I had none of it. In fact, I still don't have much.
This time, Miles was not content with just one new venture, he required, nay, DEMANDED, a second one. On top of shredding sweet 360 Variables (if that's a thing, what do I know) on his board, he also has a desire to become a tattoo artist. Now, I love art, the sight of Van Gogh's Starry Night, The Night Café or Turner's stunning Fighting Temerarie gives me goosebumps. I'd just prefer to see them on a canvas! Call me old fashioned if you like but that's just me. Both of my eldest daughters now have tattoos and I was gutted every single time I saw them! Goddamn those independent, free spirited women! I joke of course. Not about the tattoos (I detest them) but the fact that they're making their way in the world... probably better than I am. Anyway, Miles has been drawing a lot recently, and I assume it's to meet his tattooist dreams. But the thing is, he can actually draw. I just hope he chooses to stick his ink on a canvas, rather than using it to spell out "Lucas" on some 18 year old with a hopeless infatuation in three inch tall letters just above her bum crack. I hope you see my point, but it's cool if you don't, I am, admittedly, becoming a bit of an old codger.
At the end of the day, you bring these tiny humans into the world, raise them, love them (most of the time), but do you really want them to be carbon copies of yourself? Absolutely not! I have never followed the crowd or done what is considered "cool", so I don't expect them to listen to any opinion I have, because I wouldn't have. Do they do things I would rather they didn't? Yes. But more importantly, do they have their heads screwed on and contribute positively in the world? ABSOLUTELY! And that pride I feel offsets any misgivings I may have for some crappy tattoo they may choose to get. Regardless, I'm not too worried about Miles and his inky aspirations as he'll have forgotten about them in a fortnight and he will be pursuing something else, like stamp collecting...
Match Results
1. Chris - 258
2. Miles- 223
Summary
The match started off unusually well for me with a Yahtzee straight off the bat. This usually means things will end up going tits up at some point for me, but there was a long way to go. Miles, while not quite getting a Yahtzee, he was still hitting the scores he needed. This made the match a bit of a cat and mouse affair. I was constantly trying to maintain my lead while Miles was trying to catch up. To be fair, he nearly got the better of me a couple of times. Fortunately my luck just stuck around long enough for me to keep my lead. For every decent roll Miles would get, I would return with an equally decent roll, this didn't seem to bother Miles too much as he was pretty busy waffling on about skateboards, tattoos and lizards, probably. To my great shame, I wasn't really listening. Anyway, I managed to keep my lead from the start of the match all the way to the end, securing the victory. Miles didn't notice, he was still waffling...
Standings
Chris 4 - 4 Miles
Final Thoughts
The competition continues exactly as it started. Not one of us have been more than one match in front of the other. This competition is destined to go all the way. I am more than happy with that. Miles, however, might be at the end of his tether by the end!
