Summary
Well, there were a few hefty scores floating around in this, our third League Match. The heftiest of which went to Jordan, my daughter, Grace's hunk of a man who finished first in the Match. It was impressive for a couple of reasons: first, he has not done too well up to now and secondly because he's Welsh. So I doff my cap with the deepest respect Jordan, let's hope it continues. He moves up in the League from joint fourteenth all the way up to ninth. Good bloody job!
Second place in the Match went to Grace (hang on a minute...) with another good score. To be fair, our Grace is a pretty good player, but when I see her nestled just underneath her sheep sh... shearing bubba, I tend to get a wee bit suspicious. I think we'll have to keep an eye on them two. But for now I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. She moves from joint fifth in the League, all the way up to the dizzy heights of second. Well, done Grace... but I'm watching you!!
I took the third spot with a fair old score. I played pretty well and to be perfectly honest I thought I had done enough. Obviously not. But hey ho, there's always next time. I remain top of the League, but it's a tenuous lead. I'm just one crap match away from losing it!
Chloe, our very own bulky workaholic came fourth in the Match. Despite her numerous responsibilities and commitments she not only finds the time to play Yahtzee with us but she is also doing a pretty bloody good job... at Yahtzee... and her job! She may not like to admit it and she may even disagree, but I actually think Yahtzee is the only bit of "fun" she has during the week. It's not that she's incapable of having fun, she just spends far too much of her time toiling and not nearly enough time living life. This makes me sad and I've told her as much, but she's a stubborn bugger. Perhaps she'll realise sooner rather than later. I do hope so. She moves from joint fifth in the League up to joint third.
Fifth in the Match was Millie. Y'know, she is really turning out to be a bit of a dark horse! She is really impressing me at the moment. She's doing well in the Live Matches and she is giving a great account of herself here in the League. It's like a switch has been flipped. She has "played" Yahtzee since the BHO's inception, but I think that in the last few months she has really started to "get" Yahtzee. She seems to be really getting to grips with the game's nuances, which can be a big mistake for many players, because they assume that Yahtzee has no nuance. But she's getting it, and good on her! She remains joint third in the League with Chloe.
James also had a good day at the office also, finishing sixth in the Match. I mean, think about it, this is the boy's first League and he's playing with more confidence than many of us veterans! Is he dominating? No, but he's certainly in the mix and there is a long, long way to go! He moves up from joint eighth in the League to joint sixth.
Faith, the wife (my wife), finished seventh in the Match. This, I think, don't quote me, is slightly better than her normal performances. Faith is definitely one of those that haven't quite cottoned on to the nuances of Yahtzee, but it is also down to the fact that she finds it virtually impossible to concentrate on one task at once. This is not good for the Yahtzee player as, despite what people may think, it does require concentration and a fair amount of thought. She does, however, move up from joint tenth in the League to eighth.
Kerrie landed eighth in the Match. She's taken a bit of a hit to her form lately, she just can't seem to get into her stride. But let's not forget, she IS a former champion, so I have no doubt that she can mount a fight back when the time is right. Watch this space! She moves from joint third in the League down to fifth.
Lily came ninth in the Match, which isn't too bad for her, because in all honesty, she's just a tad incompetent. But once again, it's not because she lacks the capacity to play well, it's because her head is usually in the clouds and she's usually daydreaming about puppies, unicorns and pornstar martinis! She does, however, improve her position in the League ever so slightly, moving from the bottom of the League up to fifteenth!
Neil "The Nose" was up next in the Match, in tenth. I wouldn't exactly call him a veteran yet, but he definitely knows his way around a Yahtzee board by now. So, it's actually quite baffling that he still doesn't know his way around the rules! He's still muddling through matches asking people for help when it comes to distinguishing a full house from a four of a kind. I mean he's still struggling to add up the sum total of all his dice. But I'm not here to judge, but I can't help thinking that if he got over those particular hurdles he would have a decent shot at a Match victory, or heaven forfend, a Champion's badge! He remains tenth in the League, but last week it was joint tenth, now he's on his todd.
Russell, our current League Champion, finished eleventh, but Christmas is approaching. This may not sound relevant to you, but to my father, Russell, Christmas time holds a deep significance. Now, I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to ghosts and ghoulies, but my father insists that around Christmas time, roughly 120 years ago, he was visited by three ghosts. The first ghost showed him his past, the second ghost showed him the present and the third ghost showed him the future. He insists the ghosts were trying to teach him a lesson about the fact that he is a miserable old crumbly. Even if that was the case, it didn't help. He's still a mean old git, but it still plays on his mind. I think because of this he falls from second in the League down to joint sixth with James.
Lee found himself twelfth in the Match. I have to say that my disappointment with my co-founder grows deeper with every match. He is letting the side down, magnificently. I think a large portion of the blame can be rested at the feet of his new love. No, not Millie! They've been together ages now. He has a new friend that he has totally fallen for and he does nothing good for our Lee, in fact I think he's a bloody bad influence if I'm honest. His name is Kushy Greenstank. It may come to a point where we need to have a word with him, but we'll just see how it goes for now. He moves from twelfth in the League down to thirteenth.
Miles came thirteenth, and while he was present for the Match, I don't think he actually turned up for the match. So, he didn't do particularly well. This could be for a few reasons. I'm not going to get into what those reasons are because they are personal and he is still young... just let me tell you that they are disgusting and we have consulted an exorcist! He moves from thirteenth in the League down to fourteenth.
Claire finished fourteenth, single handedly proving the definition of the term "fluke". She won herself two badges, but now it seems she has given up! There seems to be no fight left in the old dog! Now don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic that some young blood is coming through and making their own mark in the League. But, come on, we've only been going for just about two years, so the old guard should be nowhere near the knackers yard just yet. For shame, Claire! She moves from joint fourteenth down to the the very bottom of the League!
Molly, Claire's demon spawn, came fifteenth in the Match, right where I expected her to be! It's not that she's a total idiot, but she is one of those people that when you talk to them, you realise that they have absolutely no interest in anything! If you're like me, it's baffling to me that people like that exist, but here we are! Basically, what I'm saying is that she does everything on autopilot. Hence the scores! She moves from joint eighth down to twelfth in the League.
Finally, Jacob, one of our brightest young stars, came LAST in the Match! This was an absolute shocker of a result for me. I don't think I have ever seen such a poor (League) result ever from this spindly fella! Come on pal! Remove your head from the nether realms of World of Warcraft for twenty minutes would you?! He moves from joint fifth down to eleventh in the League.
