Random Quandry - Should You Ever Not Score A Yahtzee?

Sounds weird doesn't it? Why on earth would anybody in their right mind not score a Yahtzee when they've rolled one? Until recently, I would have agreed with you 100%. But something happened a few weeks ago that made me question everything I believe.
Now, as a disclaimer, while this situation is entirely true, and did happen, it's probably statistically improbable that it will happen again, but I just wondered what you think about it. So let me know!
So, this happened to my crumbly father. There were literally two rolls left for him; Yahtzee and Sixes. He just happened to roll a Yahtzee ON sixes. For context, he wasn't in the lead, so his scores still mattered. Also, he chose the Yahtzee, which was fifty points. A decent score, obviously. BUT, if he had chosen to put it on his sixes, he would have scored thirty, PLUS, he would have also achieved his bonus; another thirty five points, making sixty five total. Now, I didn't shout at him and tell him to take Sixes, we were in a match after all and I certainly didn't want him to win! But, I did have a good think about it and mentioned it a bit later. To me, sixty five points trumps fifty points all day long, surely I'm not alone in this. But this comment did cause a miniscule debate.
Obviously, from the start of any match, everyone is hoping for one thing; a Yahtzee. So, in my mind, it can tend to blinker people's perception, or objectivity. If you roll a Yahtzee, it is incredibly tempting to just take it without thinking. In fact, if the same thing had happened to me, I would have prebably done the same. But, on this occasion, I had the privilege of being (somewhat) impartial, an outside observer, if you will. So I had time to look at it with a level head.
In my opinion, and it is only that, an opinion, if the situation (as described above) happened at the very beginning of the match, I personally would take the Yahtzee. Your bonus isn't developed so you might not get it anyway, so it makes sense to take the Yahtzee, always. If this situation occurs in the middle of the match and your bonus is such that it could do with the help, it MIGHT be worth considering. Don't forget you will end up with the sixty five points eventually, but it is also a bit of a gamble, so this is where judgement comes into it. Finally if it should happen at the end of the match then I would DEFINITELY avoid the Yahtzee and take the bonus.
So, there are my thoughts, it's time to turn it over to you. What would you do in this circumstance? Do you agree with me? Or do you think I'm talking a load of waffle? Be honest, I can take it.
