What the hell is a Core Championship? Well if you'd shut up I'll tell you! Well, actually, there's really not much to explain. It works exactly the same as the Team Championship only without the teams. The reason we decided to start the Core Championship was as another attempt to overcome the myriad delays our other competitions were stricken with. I suppose you could call it a side quest for our faction. The reason we called it the Core Championship was to distinguish it from our other competitions and also because it includes the four core players of our faction, meaning the four players that are the most reliable. This includes myself, Claire, Russell and Kerrie. We all agreed to play first to 5000 points and we got underway.
I got off to a great start, coming in first in the very first match, which as we know is a bit of a rarity. Claire was close behind, missing out on top spot by mere points. Russell was also pretty close in points to Claire and myself, but only managed third place. Kerrie had a bit of a nightmare and fell way behind finishing well and truly in last place.
The second match consisted of pretty poor performances for all involved. Claire walked away with the victory and also secured top spot in the league, knocking me off my perch. That lasted long. I finished second in the match and slumped into second place in the league. Kerrie finished third in the match, but it wasn't enough to get herself off the bottom of the league. If all scores in the match were underwhelming, Russell's was downright embarrassing. His performance saw him finish last in the match but he managed to just about cling on to third in the league.
Kerrie was back to her infuriating winning ways in the third match, finishing top spot in the match and managing to get herself into third in the league. Russell managed a decent performance, finishing second in the match and jumping all the way to the second in the league. Nicely done. Third place went to me with a pretty pathetic performance. This cost me dearly, falling to bottom in the league. Last place in the match went to Claire with an even worse performance. However, she maintained top spot.
There was much movement to be had in the league after match four. Kerrie once again finished first in the match, but with such a comanding score that she managed to improve her position from third all the way into first in the league. Even I was impressed more than annoyed. I managed to finish second in the match, improving my standing in the league from last place to second. Russell had a bad day, finishing third in the match and dropping from second all the way to the bottom of the league. Ouch. Claire fared slightly better than Russell, but not much. Even though she finished last in the match, she dropped only to third.
I managed to grab the victory in the fifth match. A step in the right direction for little old me. However, I was unable to improve my league position and remained in second place. Kerrie took second in the match, maintaining second in the league. Russell just about managed to secure third place in the match, but just couldn't find his way off the bottom of the league. Claire had another disastrous result, finishing last in the match, but by the grace of God she managed to hold on to third in the league.
And that's the Core Championship up to date. There's not a lot in it between Kerrie and myself, but the second half of the league doesn't look quite as promising. Keep an eye out for future updates. Till next time...
