To be clear, this second league is still ongoing. In fact, it has been plagued by incessant delays and we are a mere 5 matches in. So this is a catch up of sorts and what will follow will be match by match summaries.
There were a few changes that we made to the league this time round. The biggest change would be how we scored the league. In the first league, we scored with cumulative scores, meaning whatever score you got in the match was added to the league total. This time we elected to award points depending on what position you placed in the match, 9 points for top, 8 for second, 7 for third and so on. It just made things easier for me, the main scorer, and, truth be told, I'm pretty crap at maths. Ironic right?
The second change was our line-up. We had lost a player, Miles, which was odd due to his marvellous performance in the first league, but y'know, he had teenaged things to attend to, I suppose. We also gained two new members, Molly and Neil, which if anything, would make the league more interesting... possibly even amusing.
The third change is the amount games in the league. We went from 12 matches to 15. This seemed like a good idea at the time, but due to the delays, I'm beginning to regret it.
So, on the 28th of July the second league began. And it was a surprising start. Our champion came in last with a dismal performance, ensuring she was glued to the bottom of the league, at least for now. The winner was also a shock, Kerrie, which was definitely a surprise, as she had done very little in the previous league. But such is the game of Yahtzee. She could barely move from the bottom spot in the last league, but this time she had hit the ground running, securing top spot. But it was a spectacular victory. In second, would you believe it, was the newbie, Neil. This was extra surprising due the fact that he doesn’t know his arse from his elbow. The whole league was aghast. Even Russell gave a great account of himself, finishing third. What the bloody hell was going on?! Yours truly finished fourth, not the greatest start, but not miles away. Molly finishing in fifth was definitely a surprise as I didn't even know she could count. Faith finished in sixth, but it was only the first match. Plenty of time. Lee was exactly where he should be, right near the bloody bottom, repentance for his mouth. Millie, once again was second to last. One cant help thinking that if she just tried a lot harder, she would be flying.
The second match commenced exactly one week later. We were right on schedule. Kerrie retained top spot with a second victory in a row... the other competitors were getting suspicious. Neil didn't fare as well as he did the week prior, but he still retained second. Lee managed to climb all the way from seventh to third with a good result, but fortunately there was no sign of his arrogant twittering. At least not yet. Molly gained a bit of traction and ended in fourth, knocking me down to fifth. My second league was starting the same way my first one had ended. Claire's stint in last place was short lived and this match saw her move up to sixth. It was not a happy match for Russell, he had a bit of a nightmare and ended up falling all the way from third to seventh. I presume he had other things on his mind. He might have been having one of his many flash backs of the battle of Agincourt. He fought valiantly. Faith fell from sixth to eighth. Disappointing for her, but not unexpected. Normal order was resumed this week as Millie fell to the very bottom. The universe seems somehow "off" when there's a league table and Millie isn't at the bottom of it.
We would have to wait an entire month for match three. People had holidays to go to and social events to attend. Selfish bastards. Finally, the time had come and match three could proceed. The time off must have affected Kerrie's flow as she gave a rather pathetic perfomance finishing last in the match. However, she still managed to hold on to the top spot, but this gave Neil a chance, finishing just one point behind in second place. Russell came back with an astonishing match, finishing first, improving his position in the league, jumping from seventh all the way up to third, pushing Lee down to fourth. Faith pulled out a tremendous performance and jumped from eighth to fifth. Molly dropped from fourth to sixth, but I was still impressed at how she was holding somewhat steady in mid league. Claire slipped down one place to seventh, still chasing former glory. Even Millie improved her position to eighth. So... it happened, your humble narrator (humble, now, coz I have no choice) pulled another wretched performance and earned himself a pathetic trip into the cold and frosty depths of ninth place. It was a shock to the system and I'm not sure I'm over it yet.
We would have to wait yet ANOTHER month for the fourth match. What is it with these people and their bloody social lives?! But, eventually, match four did happen. Kerrie was still riding high at the conclusion of the match in pole position. Second had me scratching at my head until I hit bone. It was STILL Neil. Faith... yes Faith got herself into third. Is this the bloody Twilight Zone?! Lee rounded out the top four, but, even more disturbingly, he had still managed to keep a lid on his talk hole. This WAS the Twilight Zone! Russell had been displaced and dropped off into fifth position. I had managed to get myself off the bottom rung and climb up the greasy pole and make it to sixth. Claire and Millie clung steadfastly to seventh and eighth respectively. But Molly... sweet, dear Molly... well, she took a bit of a tumble and ended up crashing all the way to the bottom.
Would you believe it? It was only a week later and we were ready to..... hang on, who am I kidding? We had to wait ANOTHER GODDAMN MONTH to play match five. Bare in mind, the last league was concluded in three months. We were now sitting down to play our fifth match and we would only be a third of the way through after it and we are already four months in. These bloody people! But hey ho, I'm not one to complain (yes... yes I am). But, eventually, we managed to get match five underway. Woo... hoo. Kerrie, once again, stayed at the top. Resentment is brewing. Faith is the surprise of the league so far, making her way to second after this match. You just couldn't credit it. Lee to a jump up the league too, ending in third position, but still no sign of the mouth. Whether he was sexually frustrated (Millie might not have looked away for long enough) I don't know. Maybe he had just learned his lesson. Neil had fallen to fourth. The cracks were beginning to show. Russell had fallen from third to fifth, but I feel he has many, or a few, more marbles left to give. Millie actually won the flipping match, which catapulted her from eight to the dizzy heights of sixth. She made a point of reminding us that she won the match, so perhaps Lee's arrogance is sexually transmitted. Claire was a non mover in seventh, I had fallen from sixth to bloody eighth. At this point, I am getting depressed. Molly, unfortunately, still languished in ninth.
So there you have it, league 2, up to now. There are still plenty of matches to play and still plenty of chance for everyone to take the victory!
From now on (for league 2 that is), every match will be a post in its own right, complete with match results and League table. So, watch this space, friends, there's always more to come.
Much love,
Chris
