Introduction
Since the last time Miles and myself met over the Yahtzee board, the summer holidays are over and all the kiddiewinks have gone back to school. This includes Miles. I have mentioned in these summaries before that he struggles to go to school and he often misses it. But I'm happy to report that he's back at school and doing a bloody great job at turning up. He's had a few blips, but you can't expect miracles. So well done Miles, keep it up!
There is a constant war in my household, and it has always got to do with Miles and the procurement of some genus of living being. He's wanted just about everything that crawls, flies or slithers, I normally say no, and nine times out of ten I win. But then he came to me and expressed an interest in getting some pet rats. The little turd knew exactly what he was doing. He knows that in my past, I have owned many rats, so he thought he would win this one. I said no, rather firmly. Thing is, his mother ALSO owned rats because we bought them together. Miles also knew this. He also knows that she is a lot softer than I am. So that's exactly who he went running to. So after nagging his mum for a bit, he comes back to me, flashes me a pompous little grin and informed me that I had lost and he was getting rats. I was not happy! Cheers mum!! So he is now the proud owner of a pair of male rats that go by the name of Ratty G and Rizzo. Why? I've no idea. Ask him.
I am pleased to say that Miles is still not bored of the skateboarding (which he usually would be by now). No, the lad is still plugging away on it. And he's making progress. The trouble is, we are now in autumn, so the weather has taken a bit of a turn. Plenty of rain and plenty of wind. So what did Miles do? He bought himself a handboard. If you don't know, a handboard looks the same as a skateboard but is much smaller and you use your hands to perform the tricks. The Irony is that he is actually a lot better skating with his hands than he is with his feet. Not that he's bad with a proper skateboard, he just seems to have the knack for the handboard.
He has also had a bloody haircut. When he told me he was getting rid of that thicket he called a hair do, I was ecstatic. It was only when he got home and I saw the results did the disappointment set in! Honestly, he must just go to the barber and tell them to cut everything except the fringe. That bloody thing has taken on a life of it's flipping own! It floats past his forehead by about four inches! It just seems to defy gravity!
Finally, fantastic news! Miles has only gone and created himself a blog! AND, to make things extra warm and fuzzy, so has my eldest daughter, Grace! Miles writes posts about music and Grace posts her poetry (another thing she got from her dad). I tell you, there is nothing more satisfying than knowing your kids are taking notice. I'm not claiming credit, but it's nice know you're making a mark on your children's lives, however miniscule that mark may be. Love you both xxx
Match Results
1. Chris - 279
2. Miles - 266
Summary
It was a pretty close match. Miles was chasing my tail (metaphorically), right to the end. The last thing I wanted was Miles to win and make the score level, once again. This whole competition has just been far too close to call for my liking, so a two match cushion is a thing of absolute joy! And that's exactly what I got. But that is not to say that Miles didn't give a good account of himself. Oh no, he played extremely well. I think he knew how well he played, too. He even showed a bit of emotion when he found out he had lost. Not to worry, Billy Bob, there's still time!
Standings
Chris 7 - 5 Miles
Final Thoughts
It is now seven to five matches in my favour, with potentially another seven matches to play! So, I am still a ways off from victory! If there's one thing I do know is that Miles is not the kind of kid to just roll over and accept defeat. He'll come back, and I supect that it will take more than the three matches I need to win to claim victory. That's if I even win at all!
